garyforemanI met Gary Foreman through his site The Dollar Stretcher.  The Dollar Stretcher is a frugal living site dedicated to helping its users take control of their financial lives.

I appreciate that there’s an entire section in the site dedicated to baby boomers.  The boomer section includes articles on long-term care, retirement planning, healthcare, and caring for our adult children/parents.

Gary is a fellow baby boomer himself, and is right in the middle of the same challenges and questions as a NearlyRetired.  I hope you enjoy this brief interview.

Tell us about your site “The Dollar Stretcher.” What prompted you to create it?

It was a layoff project. Since I had spent the first 20 years of my work life as a financial planner and purchasing manager I had experience in getting value for a dollar. So writing about how to do that only seemed natural. I started in 1996 just as the internet was becoming popular.

What will a Nearly Retired most appreciate about your site?

We have an active ‘boomer’ section http://stretcher.com/boomers/. We add about 10 articles a week on financial topics of interest to baby boomers.

How close are you to retirement? And what does retirement mean to you?

I’m 60+ and have no plans for retirement. I’m having too much fun working.

What accomplishment are you most proud of as you’ve prepared for retirement? What are you still figuring out?

I’m most proud of the fact that I was part of building something in the new internet world. Working with some really good people we’ve created a site that helps thousands every day. What I still have to figure out is how to find the time to retire!

What else would you like Nearly Retired readers to know about you?

That people can be very productive in the 60s and 70s. That might mean still working or doing something more creative or even volunteering.

Gary got his start nearly 20 years ago with a newsletter, that eventually evolved to the site we see today.  Congratulations Gary on your long-running success helping readers find financial independence.

If there are other ‘nearly retired’ people you’d like me to interview, drop me a note and I’ll see what I can do!
